The End of the World is an Augmented Reality Walk opera created by composer Patricia Martínez, director and producer Carmen C. Kruse and librettist Giuliana Kiersz that reflects on the theme of world endings through interviews with womxn of our times and makes the historical unseen visible. Audience members equipped with an augmented reality capable device and headphones go onto a journey along the Vienna Donaukanal.
It has been developed for the public space to bring overlook perspectives to life in the familiar. 15 audience members go onto a collective exploratory walk along the Donaukanal in which they encounter female stories of change, positivity and tumult through avatars of singers. Beginning in the traditional narrative of the world end with heart wrenching music by Patricia Martinez, this narrative slowly dissolves and reveals a choir of our female anchestors who with their collective knowledge lead us through diverse perspectives, and introduce us to nine characters and their stories.
Based on real life experiences and encounters with womxn in Buenos Aires, Zurich and Vienna, this opera was written by Patricia Martinez until her death in October 2022. Her unfinished work was then completed by five contemporary composers from all over the world. They each brought one character to life, in addition to the four characters and choir already finished and recorded with the SWR Experimentalstudio. These compositions were recorded in 2024 at Vienna Sound Studios under the artistic direction of Carmen C. Kruse.
In December 2024, we are finally ready to present our work to an audience for the first time in a soft launch and appreciate your feedback. Further performances will follow in February/March 2025.
It has been a long time and we thank everyone who has supported us along the way.
We look forward to touring it to your cities in 2025.
